As the detected signal strength increases, the frequency of the audio tone on the GA-52Cx increases. Therefore, when the signal strength is about zero, the frequency of the audio output is higher than the Idling frequency that exists at the time when the signal strength is approximately zero. This Schonstedt locator contains the HeliFlux® sensors for optimal performance. It will provide a response to iron and steel objects only as it is a magnetic locator. You can easily locate steel pipe joints, iron pipes, pk nails, a corner marker, a steel manhole cover or other ferrous metal objects with pinpoint accuracy. How to Locate Cast-Iron Pipes with the GA-52cx

The strongest magnetic signals are produced by cast-iron pipes at their joints.

In order to begin the search, follow these steps:

1. Adjust the sensitivity level for maximum sensitivity.
2. Hold the locator vertically between 1 and 1-1/2 feet above the ground.
3. Do not turn or tilt the locator while walking.
4. Mark the locations where the signal levels are the highest.
5. Bring the locator to an area of maximum signal strength and hold it several inches above the surface. Reduce the sensitivity for the second pass. Pipes up to four inches in diameter can be found as deep as ten feet.
