JW Fishers Dual Frequency Side Scan Sonar
Side scan sonars are highly sought after tools for underwater searches due to their ability to cover large areas quickly and visualize the ocean floor regardless of water visibility. They operate by sending out a sonar beam that sweeps over the bottom, reflecting off objects and returning to the towfish. This signal is transmitted through the tow cable to a topside display, producing a detailed two-dimensional image of the underwater terrain and any objects present. The sonar beam's frequency is determined by the transducers on the towfish. Low frequency transducers offer excellent long-range capability but lower resolution, while high frequency systems provide high resolution with shorter range. A dual frequency side scan combines both, offering long range and highly detailed images.
Wide Range of Applications
This model is favored for military, dredging operations, fisheries, and large-scale environmental studies. JW Fishers sonars offer a significant price/performance advantage in affordable side scan systems. They provide three frequency options: the SSS-100K, the SSS-600K, and the dual frequency SSS-100K/600K. The SSS-600K delivers high resolution over ranges up to 200 feet (400-foot swath), ideal for locating small or soft targets such as old wooden wrecks, debris fields, ghost nets, logs, drowning victims, and military mine countermeasures. It can also detect larger targets like sunken vessels up to 200 feet away. The SSS-600K is utilized by law enforcement, dive rescue teams, and military units globally.
