When looking for a modern metal detector to find coins, jewelry and relics, look to the Fisher F5. Advanced display features and ground tracking. Be sure to read our Guide Comparing the Fisher F4, F5 and F70 metal detectors.

Visual & Audio Target ID Metal Detector

The Fisher F5 is a great model to choose for coin, relic and beach hunting. This detector combines both analog and digital technologies. For the beach and relic hunter this model includes a high resolution manual ground balance adjustment. Now you can precisely tune this model for your exact ground conditions.

Quite Possibly Your Next Detector

This detector can attest that one man's waste is another man's treasure. The variable tone pinpoint system distinguishes between different metals, like nails, pennies, quarters and bottle caps for a more accurate target identification to maximize your digging efforts. The F5 includes a manual ground balancing option to cancel unwanted signals that usually come from natural ground minerals.

A Well Equipped Machine

The display on the Fisher F5 includes a numeric target identification readout that goes from 0-99. A frequency shift adjustment is included. This will allow you to hunt near high power lines or other treasure hunters that have the same model. This unit includes both audio and visual target identification. A target identification confidence bar graph helps you sort out your targets more precisely. A one touch notch control and a pinpoint control are standard on this model. You can even adjust the audio pitch on the F5. Perfect for those that have hearing loss at certain frequencies. This model allows you to manually adjust the audio threshold for your personal style of treasure hunting. Finally this model includes continuous ground mineralization phase readout.

Detailed Specifications:

  • 7.8 kHz frequency - good for coin shooting, relic hunting, and casual gold prospecting.
  • Frequency shift for eliminating electrical interference and crosstalk.
  • Advanced software-based motion discrimination with notch for searching trashy areas.
  • All metal auto-tune mode for deep-searching in non-trashy areas.
  • Visual target ID by category & 0-99 indication, both discrimination & auto-tune modes.
  • Target ID confidence bar graph.
  • High-resolution manual ground balance with continuous ground readout.
  • Ground balance range goes all the way to salt.
  • Continuous display of ground mineral concentration and phase.
  • Push-button static pinpoint with variable audio pitch and visual depth reading.
  • Independent gain and threshold knobs provide complete control over sensitivity.
  • Standard 10" elliptical concentric open center search coil.
  • Two 9-volt alkaline batteries last approximately 40 hours.

Ask a question about this product

Can the Fisher F-5 be used in a lake?
Question by: henry miller on Jul 7, 2016, 11:48 PM Link
The Fisher F-5 has a waterproof search coil, but the control box, and control box connections are NOT waterproof. You could use this at the edge of the water, just don't go too deep!

I read that the Fisher F5 has a special ground balance feature? What makes it different?
Question by: GroundPounder on Jun 22, 2017, 10:12 AM Link
The Fisher F5 has high resolution ground balance for exceptionally precise tuning of the various ground conditions. The continuous "phase" readout shows soil changes as you sweep.....

Do you have the Fisher F5 with a DD coil?
Question by: John B. on Jun 15, 2017, 1:57 PM Link
This Fisher F5 package comes with the stock 10" elliptical coil, but you can add the 11" DD coil as an accessory...

I'm mainly a coin hunter. Would this Fisher F5 detector be a decent choice for old coins?
Question by: NancyB on Jun 22, 2017, 10:31 AM Link
Yes! The Fisher F5 metal detector is a fantastic choice for coin hunting, as it's frequency of 7.8 kHz makes it more sensitive to higher conductive targets like copper & silver.
Answer by: Detector Tester on Jun 22, 2017, 10:39 AM
Is this product able to find arrowheads? What's the max depth?
Question by: Deader on Jan 27, 2018, 12:38 PM Link
Arrowheads are generally non-metallic, the Fisher F5 can ONLY detect metal, not stone. The max depth is approx. 8-10 inches, depending on ground conditions, as well as the size and composition of the target.
Answer by: on Feb 20, 2018, 2:31 PM
Do these units come with the older push on style coil connector or the screw on style ?
Question by: Bob on Mar 26, 2020, 12:49 AM Link
The current F5's will have a screw-on connection.

Are the battery's rechargeable
Question by: Jay on Mar 26, 2020, 3:33 PM Link
The F5 runs off of 2 9-volt batteries. As per Fisher, the recommendation is to use traditional alkaline batteries for the best performance.
Answer by: on Mar 31, 2020, 10:22 AM
The F5 coils are waterproof, do I have to take special precautions if submerged in salt water?
Question by: David Vilenica on Dec 16, 2019, 12:28 AM Link
I would just be sure to rinse with fresh-water to make sure the parts do not wear/corrode down.
Answer by: on Dec 16, 2019, 11:50 AM
How will this do on the wet sand at the beach
Question by: Justin on Jun 25, 2019, 6:51 AM Link
The Fisher F5 does offer ground balance, and quite a bit of information as far as ground conditions, so you would be better than other detectors in this price range. It may not be quite as stable as a more advanced model, but it would be a better option than other entry level, or even some mid-level detectors in terms of balancing down to salt-water.
